This study evaluated the influence of two novel internal retention cavity designs and the presence of a ferrule on stress distribution in endodontically treated maxillary central incisors restored with anatomically shaped fiber posts using finite element analysis (FEA).
Educating for tomorrow: integrating digital dentistry into today's curriculum
Clinical efficacy of amniotic membrane and collagen membrane in conjunction with coronally advanced flap for the treatment of gingival recession: a randomized controlled trial
The objective of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of amniotic membrane (AM) and collagen membrane (CM), both used in conjunction with coronally advanced flaps (CAFs), in the treatment of gingival recession, assessing their ability to achieve root coverage and improve periodontal health. The primary outcome measure was the percentage of root coverage. Secondary outcomes included recession height, recession width, keratinized tissue width, probing depth, and clinical attachment level.
The effect of provincial legislation on oral health in continuing care facilities
In Alberta, a provincial daily oral hygiene policy for continuing care facilities (CCF) was approved in 2018, and a mouth care training program was implemented in 2015. These initiatives require CCF to provide residents with twice-daily oral hygiene assistance and staff training. This study aimed to evaluate the provincial implementation scope, compliance rates, perceived impact on residents, and areas for improvement.
The impact of supportive periodontal therapy on the progression of molar furcation involvement: a time-to-event retrospective analysis
To determine the association between the frequency of supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) and the time to progression of initial Class I and Class II molar furcation involvements, using a time-to-event analysis that accounts for clustered data.
The effects of applying hyaluronic acid gel after gingival depigmentation using a scalpel or diode laser: a randomized clinical trial
The aim was to evaluate the impact of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) gel on the clinical outcomes of gingival depigmentation using scalpel or diode laser techniques.
A comparison of peri-implant health across different types of implant-supported prostheses and anatomical locations: a cross-sectional observational study
Several patient- and implant-level factors influence the success of dental implants. The present study aims to evaluate the clinical outcomes of peri-implant soft tissue across several types of implant-supported prostheses and anatomical locations at the implant level.
Periodontal maintenance therapy for long-term tooth preservation and adequate oral health: a narrative review and case series
Periodontal diseases can lead to progressive attachment loss and eventual tooth loss if untreated. Following the successful completion of active therapy, periodontal maintenance therapy plays a vital role in preserving periodontal health by controlling inflammation and monitoring conditions. This narrative review and case series evaluates the effectiveness of periodontal maintenance therapy in preserving teeth over long-term follow-up and explores relevant literature to highlight best practices.
Validated screening tool for referral of temporomandibular disorders in older adults: development and psychometric evaluation
This study aimed to develop and validate the content, form, construct, and reliability of a referral questionnaire for the specialty of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and orofacial pain in older people.
Development of an artificial intelligence model for automated detection of the mandibular canal, mental foramen and maxillary sinus in panoramic radiographs: an original diagnostic accuracy study
The objective of the study was to train, create and test an artificial intelligence model for automated detection of mandibular canal, mental foramen and maxillary sinus in panoramic radiographs to evaluate the model's reliability and potential for integration into routine practice.
Cognitive impairment is associated with poorer oral health in people with HIV: evidence from a pilot study
Despite widespread antiretroviral therapy (ART) use, mild and asymptomatic cognitive impairment (CI) persists in people with HIV (PWH). Poor oral health is also commonly reported among PWH, yet the prevalence of specific oral diseases in the ART era remains uncertain. While CI has been linked to poor dental outcomes in people without HIV (PWoH), particularly older adults, its impact on oral health in PWH is less understood. This study aimed to compare oral health outcomes in PWH and PWoH; and PWH with and without CI.
Efficacy of the entire papilla preservation technique with or without L-PRF for the treatment of infrabony defects: pilot clinical study
infraosseous periodontal defects are a challenge for restoring periodontal health. Regenerative techniques such as Entire Papilla Preservation (EPP) offer valid, minimally invasive alternatives. Platelet concentrates like leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) may enhance the healing process. This pilot study aims to describe and assess the effectiveness of EPP for treating interproximal infra-bony defects, with and without L-PRF, focusing on clinical and radiographic parameters.
Feasibility of two-color chewing gum mixing ability test for evaluating masticatory performance in schoolchildren
Mastication plays a major role in a person's life and affects much of their quality of life, from enjoying food to facilitating nutrition. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of evaluating masticatory performance (MP) in schoolchildren during routine dental exams using a validated chewing test.
Effects of hyaluronic acid as an adjunct to nonsurgical treatment of periodontal pockets: a narrative review
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by clinical attachment loss, periodontal pockets, bleeding on probing, gingival recession, and alveolar bone loss. Non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) is effective in the periodontal pocket reduction, however a proportion of residual pockets can be assessed after completion of NSPT. Hyaluronic acid (HA), due to its anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties, has been proposed as a topical adjunct to enhance NSPT outcomes. This review aimed to summarize and evaluate the current evidence on the adjunctive use of HA in NSPT.
Shifting definitions in dentistry: a source of clinical confusion. A critical review
Definitions play a pivotal role in scientific disciplines, including dentistry, by providing clarity and precision to the terminology employed. However, over time, definitions are sometimes subject to modification, which can result in communication misunderstandings among clinicians, patients, and third parties. This narrative review aims to present and discuss different patterns of definitional changes.
3D virtual patient creation with intraoral and facial scanning for zirconia veneers fabrication
This clinical case report describes the application of a fully digital workflow for the esthetic and functional rehabilitation of a patient presenting severe fluorosis, internal discoloration, and previously inadequate restorations, utilizing multilayered zirconia prostheses.
Safety and efficacy of symptomatic treatment for oral emergencies in pregnant women: a retrospective cohort study
The primary objective of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of symptomatic treatments - encompassing both active and conservative treatments - for oral emergencies during pregnancy on two key aspects: first, the incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes; second, the symptom relief rates of oral emergencies during pregnancy.
Influence of edentulous span length on complete-arch intraoral scanner accuracy: a comparative in vitro study
To assess the influence of edentulous span length on the accuracy of two intraoral scanner (IOS) devices Primescan (Dentsply Sirona) and Trios 3 (3Shape) in complete-arch scenarios. The hypothesis was that accuracy would decline with increasing span length, with performance differences between scanners.
